Helping Your Mind to Focus
/Do you have difficulty focusing on tasks?
Does your brain jump around like a box of rabid frogs ?
If you do experience these challenges you probably won’t be surprised to hear that your brain constantly has electricity running through it. These electrical signals work with the chemicals within you (dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and so on) to create your experience of the world.
The brain’s electrical activity can be measured with an electroencephalogram (EEG). An EEG shows the waves of electricity that travel across your brain in regular, repeating patterns. These are brain waves, and they have a huge impact on how you think and feel. There are a few different types of brainwaves, each with different effects:
• Beta waves mediate attention and sometimes produce anxiety.
• Theta waves are higher during drowsiness and daydreaming. They can also increase your sense of connection with people around you.
• Delta waves increase during restorative sleep.
Then there are alpha waves. Alpha waves give you a feeling of deep calm, coupled with productivity, creativity, and effortless focus. These are the ones that we are going to look at to help you with your focus.
Benefits of Alpha Waves
If you’ve ever experienced that glorious feeling of being in your flow, that feeling where you completely lose your sense of time and self and your productivity and focus drastically improves that means that you’ve experienced a burst of alpha. High alpha does a few different things for you:
Eases anxiety
Lowers depression
Boosts creativity
Increases pain tolerance
Boosts resilience to stress
Basically, high alpha makes you a calmer, happier, less reactive, more creative and productive person.
The wonderful benefits of Alpha Waves make it sound like some sort of magical wizardry doesn’t it ? You’ll be pleased to hear though that it is actually much more accessible than you may think. There are a number of different ways of increasing your alpha brainwaves but the one that I find the easiest to access and most effective is to listen to Alpha Waves Study Music. This is music that is specially designed to help your brain become calm, relaxed and focused. Whenever my brain is leaping around all over the place I put this on in the background and, nearly without fail, my thoughts calm and my productivity increases. Some days this is nothing short of a minor miracle!
